Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has updated the Mirage hatchback range. Unfortunately, we’re not getting the refreshed Mirage model that features the brand’s Dynamic Shield design language. Well, not yet, at least. Instead, the automaker has decided to simplify the hatchback’s lineup even further and changed a few styling bits.
For 2021, Mitsubishi no longer puts the GLX tag on the Mirage hatchback. Instead, the hatchback's variants are now simply dubbed Mirage MT and Mirage CVT. Sadly, there is no new range-topping GLS trim with more features. Customers that want something a bit more upscale will have to settle for the Mirage G4 GLS.
Styling-wise, the design of the Mirage hatchback remains relatively unchanged from before. Most of the design cues of the GLX and GLS are carried over as well. The bumper trim is finished in black and lacks fog lights as standard. What’s new is the rear spoiler with an integrated LED light and gloss black B-pillars and side mirrors. New 15-inch wheels finished in high-gloss black were also fitted. As for the grille, it came straight from the GLS.
Probably the most interesting styling changes on the Mirage hatchback are the color options. For 2021, there are now only two color options available – Virgil Gray or Majestic Red. Two colors compared to the handful of color choices from before.
Inside, there’s no touchscreen to be found. Instead, both Mirage MT and CVT get a 2-DIN infotainment system as standard with only USB and Bluetooth. There are no steering wheel controls too. Meanwhile, the seats make do without leather. No automatic climate control either. Simple, but it works.
Mechanically, the Mirage hatchback remains unchanged from before. Under the hood is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 77 PS and 100 Nm torque. As implied, the transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a CVT.

2021 Mitsubishi Mirage CVT: PHP 765,000
With this update, does this mean the new-look Mirage will roll off the Santa Rosa plant soon? That's a story for another day, and we'll keep you posted once we know more.

My verdict: This new (downgraded) model is a sham and is frankly crap compared to its price range. The Rio, Brio, Celerio and Wigo are all much better buys at that price.
