The Philippine food environment is much broader than supermarkets and restaurants.

The DOST-FNRI's national nutrition survey identified food sources ranging from farms, rivers, and coastal areas to wet markets, sari-sari stores, carinderias, street vendors, supermarkets, convenience stores, and online sellers.

This matters because accessibility influences what foods are realistically available to households. A neighborhood with a wet market may offer very different choices from an area that depends heavily on convenience stores.

Food habits are therefore shaped not only by personal preference but also by the places where food can be obtained. The study gives a clearer picture of how the Philippine food environment influences everyday eating.
