X to remove the ability to block other users except in DMs
Written by Val Jose Mendoza (via Yugatech) X, formerly known as Twitter, will now soon be removing the ability for users to block other accounts or other users as confirmed by Elon Musk on the platform last Friday. Blocking another user would generally prohibit this account from contacting them, seeing their Tweets, or even ever following them in order to avoid any harassment or abusive content from ever reaching them. However, it was made apparent that X would still carry the “Mute” function which would simply keep users from seeing specific accounts’ responses but wouldn’t eliminate any undesired replies from reaching their feed. Moreover, muting one account would not alert the other user of said muting. This decision to remove...
New EU law requires all smartphones to have replaceable batteries by 2027
All smartphones, including iPhones, must have replaceable batteries by 2027 in the EU The decision could have a global impact. The European Union is officially requiring all smartphones to have replaceable batteries by 2027. This week, the European Council adopted the regulation designed to reduce waste and break up monopolistic practices from tech companies like Apple, Samsung, and Google that make it difficult to replace parts without having to buy a brand new phone. This is a big win for the right-to-repair movement. While it only applies to the EU, the regulation has global ramifications, since it wouldn't make sense to make two different smartphones — one for Europe, one for everywhere else. Regulation will likely impact the...

Illegally parked vehicle hits wall after owner tried to run from the MMDA
Illegally parked vehicle hits wall after owner tried to run from the MMDA© Provided by Top Gear Philippines There’s nothing good that’ll ever come out of trying to run away from a traffic violation, no matter what type of violation that is. A motorist from somewhere in Metro Manila recently learned that the hard way. During the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) road-clearing operations, the owner of an illegally parked vehicle hurried to take his car out of the street. In what we can only assume is his panic, he hit the wall of a nearby house. So, some deductions here. If the owner wanted to just run away at the sight of the MMDA personnel, then he’s probably taking his car somewhere. Either that’s a proper and secure...

China's request to take away a stranded ship from a contested reef is denied by the Philippine
The Philippines has defied China's demand to remove a grounded warship from a reef in the South China Sea, where it serves as a makeshift military base and a symbol of sovereignty. The BRP Sierra Madre, a former US Navy ship, was deliberately stranded on the Second Thomas Shoal in 1999 to assert the Philippines' claim over the area, which is also contested by China and other countries. On August 7, 2023, China's foreign ministry repeated its call for the Philippines to tow away the "illegally stranded" warship and restore the reef to its "unoccupied state". China accused the Philippines of ignoring its repeated requests and warnings, and of attempting to transfer construction materials for repairing the ship. China also defended its...
