1) Environmental geology is considered as an applies science that uses principles and theories of geology to mitigate environmental problems. today we are facing many issues related to geology mainly due to the land uses, heavy rainfalls, etc. lack of scientific procedures and precautions in land uses in sensitive areas in hill regions will results in landslides and debris flow so it is very important to study the region and develop land-use procedures with the support of an environmental geologist.
we are now facing heavy rainfall in certain regions and drought in others due to climate change. so it is important to identify the region of potential landslides to avoid a loss of life. also, it is important to study the groundwater and its uses and sources when a region faces droughts. so, the procedures and precautions using the principle of geology can reduce the impacts to overcome its effects.
2) one of the most affecting disaster is flood and associated issues. heavy rainfall will cause a flood on the plain region and landslide and debris flow across the hill or mountain region. the landslide will cause a large quantity of soil and rocks to flow down and destruct everything on its way and this heavy water-mud flow will result in the overflow of the river and leads to complete flooding in the plain area.
it affects all forms of life-like vegetation, animals, and human beings and creates a loss of freshwater and food items, and leads to a very bad situation for the region. the soil will lose its outer fertile layer and it will affect agriculture after the flood. it will be so difficult to survive without external support to the community.
3) climate change is the change in the atmospheric parameters over a long period of time like temperature rainfall etc. researchers found that the major cause of climate change is due to the excess amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is emitted mainly by the burning of fossil fuels. after the industrial revolution, we are burning fossil fuels for our energy requirements and that emotes tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. CO2 is a greenhouse gas and it can trap heat energy and results in an increase in the average temperature of the earth.
the important thing we can do for this is to reduce CO2 emission by reducing fossil fuel and shift to renewable sources. we have to completely stop fossil fuels as immediately as possible so that a further increase in temperature can be reduced.
