Kazuhisa Hashimoto, the man who introduced the world to the “Konami Code,” has passed away. Japanese entertainment company Konami confirmed the news on Wednesday.
In a previous magazine interview, Hashimoto revealed that he added the so-called Konami Code so he could properly playtest “Gradius” in 1986.
Unfortunately, the Konami Code was left in the game when it was shipped to consumers. The mistake was only discovered after the release, but developers decided to leave it there.
The Konami Code is closely associated with the “Contra” video game, where entering the code at the title screen gives the player 30 lives.
It also made an appearance in many video games such as “Metal Gear,” “Twinbee,” and “Dance Dance Revolution.”
