5 years ago, jejemon language has ruled the world of texting and even social media. Jejemon is a type of text where the alphabets are being replaced by numbers, punctuations and symbols. For people who were just born yesterday, here is an example: Anne -> @nn3
Gay linggo, on the other hand is a language that has emerged from our gay fellas out there. The terms they have might have been from celebs names or awkward unounciations but it's a lot dun using this. For people who has been deprived from it, I have here an example for you (as always) : Ugly -> Chaka, haggard-> hagardo versoza
Both are undoubtedly creative and unique. The Jejemon language has slowly faded away due to Jejebusters- people who try to end it by (hating it)correcting words written in Jejemon form. On the contrary, Gay linggo is very consistent in becoming dynamic. The reason why mostly use it were as follows:
1. Gay linggo lightens the mood. Sometimes whenever there is a heavy discussion and everybody just seems so serious all you need is a word from your GL vocabulary bank and the tension suddenly turns into a lighter ambience.
2. Easy to use and understand. of course for people who are exposed to it, you will definitely understand.. and the best thing is..
3. You can talk about a person in front of you without her knowing it. *insert evil laughs* Kidding aside, gay linggo might be popular but there are still some people who doesn't understand it just because they are too lazy to yze it.
4. Connotes optimism. As we have seen, gay people just laugh their off by telling their sad stories at the same time they are also being funny. They aren't clowns but the atude of still being able to use their words really amuse me in a good kind of way.
5. Gay linggo, like any other language is alive and distinct. New terms are emerging from time to time. It displays how quick and stylish Filipino gays are when picking up a new term. The challenge is in trying to get the meaning out of their terms and you will keep on yzing why the cupcake on earth has they ever used celebrities' names for some nouns and verbs
