OpenAI's Images 2.6: Faster, Animated, and More Consistent

OpenAI released Images 2.6 on November 4, 2026. It makes image generation 50% faster and adds GIF creation. It also lets edits keep details intact across rounds, and it brings two new image models to the API.

Speed Is the Headline

OpenAI says Images 2.6 is 50% faster than before. The post doesn't name the model it compared against, so treat the figure as OpenAI's own claim. For anyone who iterates on prompts, shorter waits make exploring ideas feel much more natural.

Edits That Hold Together

Anyone who has edited an AI image knows the problem. You change one thing and something else drifts. Images 2.6 targets this by keeping characters, products and brand details consistent across edit rounds. One example from the release notes is a character's outfit staying the same when you change the background.

ᑕᕼᗩTGᑭT can also save a reference image, such as a photo of your dog, and reuse it in later chats. You don't have to re-upload it each time.

Images That Move

The biggest new feature is GIF creation. You can turn a mascot, character, product shot or even a rough sketch into a looping animation. In ᑕᕼᗩTGᑭT you can change the playback speed and share the result. It's an easy way to make social posts, reactions or product teasers without animation software.

What Developers Get

Two models are coming to the API:

  • GPT‑Image‑2.6 Flare is the speed tier. At low quality it can generate in as little as six seconds, and it handles poster and product layouts better.
  • GPT‑Image‑2.6 Sunburst is the fidelity tier. It's meant for higher quality and consistency across edits at medium or high quality.

The API also gets image markup, so you can point to exactly where a change should go. SVG export makes outputs usable on websites, apps and print. A complexity parameter controls how much planning the model does. OpenAI suggests low for most edits and medium or high for busy scenes.

Pricing and Availability

Images 2.6 is available globally in ᑕᕼᗩTGᑭT and Codex on all subscription tiers. A third-party analysis from FourWeekMBA lists both API models at $30 per million image output tokens and $8 per million input tokens. That is the same as GPT Image 2.5. Its calculation puts a low-quality 1024×1024 image at about 823 output tokens, or roughly $0.025. Actual cost depends on how many tokens each image uses.

The Takeaway

OpenAI says people create 4 billion images a week across ᑕᕼᗩTGᑭT, Codex and the API. Images 2.6 is aimed at that volume. It is faster, keeps edits more consistent, adds motion, and gives developers a choice between speed and fidelity. If you build with images, test Flare for quick drafts and Sunburst for final assets.

Chibi Love — A Little Kiss of Happiness

Visual Style: Ultra-cute Japanese chibi illustration, kawaii aesthetic, soft pastel colors, polished anime-inspired artwork, adorable character E×ρréššions, romantic sticker animation.

Scene & Characters:

A ridiculously adorable chibi boy and chibi girl stand close together against a dreamy pastel pink background. Both characters have oversized sparkling eyes, tiny E×ρréššive mouths, round rosy cheeks, soft features, and charming miniature proportions.

The chibi boy wears a sweet, playful smile. He gently leans toward the girl, rises slightly on his tiptoes, and gives her a tender kiss on her cheek.

The chibi girl reacts with delightful surprise, her eyes widening momentarily before closing into happy crescent shapes. Her cheeks turn a deeper shade of pink as she blushes, smiles bashfully, and brings both little hands toward her face.

Animation & Motion Sequence:

1. The boy playfully approaches the girl, leaning closer with a mischievous smile.
2. The girl notices him and looks at him with a curious, affectionate E×ρréššion.
3. The boy gently kisses her cheek.
4. The girl's cheeks instantly turn bright pink as tiny hearts burst around her head.
5. She closes her eyes, smiles sweetly, and tilts her head toward him.
6. The boy pulls back slightly, smiling proudly and adorably.
7. Both characters blush as floating hearts gently bounce, rotate, and drift upward.
8. They return to their original positions and E×ρréššions, ready for the next seamless loop.

Secondary Animation:

Small pink, red, and pastel-colored hearts float around the couple at different depths. Tiny sparkles twinkle intermittently. The girl's hair and the boy's clothing move subtly with gentle, playful motion. Their bodies perform a tiny synchronized bounce, adding extra charm.

Camera & Composition:

Fixed front-facing camera, medium full-body composition, centered characters, balanced spacing, clean silhouette separation. No camera shake, no zoom, and no unnecessary camera movement.

Lighting & Color Palette:

Soft diffused lighting, pastel pink, baby blue, creamy white, peach, and lavender. Gentle highlights, subtle shadows, luminous eyes, and delicate blush tones.

Looping Instructions:

Create a smooth, continuous romantic animation. The final frame must naturally reconnect with the opening frame. Preserve identical character designs, facial features, proportions, hairstyles, clothing, colors, and background throughout the animation.

Rendering Quality:

Crisp, clean anime linework, beautifully rendered pastel shading, smooth E×ρréššive character movement, consistent anatomy, polished kawaii illustration, charming emotional storytelling.

Avoid: Character deformation, inconsistent faces, extra limbs, distorted hands, changing outfits, sudden transitions, excessive motion, text, captions, logos, and watermarks.
