The Philippine Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory records a Kankanay tradition literally called “The Night the Fires Go Out.”

It belongs to the Kankanay cultural heritage of Mountain Province. The unusual name reflects a traditional practice involving household fires.

Fire has historically been important to highland households for cooking, warmth, and daily life, making a community practice centered on extinguishing fires culturally significant.

The tradition is separately recorded rather than being simply grouped under a general category of Kankanay customs. Its preservation in the national inventory demonstrates how even seemingly ordinary household practices can become part of intangible heritage.

It is one of the more unusual named traditions found in the Philippine inventory.
