Gobgobo is documented as a traditional Kankanay birth ritual in Mountain Province.

The fact that birth has its own named ritual demonstrates how important life-cycle events were traditionally marked through culturally specific practices.

It is listed separately from Kankanay agricultural, death, and other ritual traditions. These distinctions show that traditional community life was not organized around one generalized ceremony, but around different practices for different stages and circumstances.

Gobgobo is therefore a particularly interesting example of a lesser-known Philippine birth custom.
