The Aklanon Ati-atihan is documented in the NCCA's Philippine Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory.

Although Ati-atihan is widely known today as a major public celebration, its cultural history is connected with local traditions and the identity of Aklan communities.

Music, dancing, costumes, movement, and religious devotion come together during the celebration. Its modern festival form has developed over time, so the contemporary event should not be treated as identical to every historical practice associated with it.

The NCCA's inclusion of Aklanon Ati-atihan nevertheless recognizes it as living intangible heritage.
