The Sulod communities of Panay have documented traditional burial practices that are distinct from ordinary modern funeral customs.
These practices form part of the community's broader understanding of death, mourning, and the relationship between the living and the deceased.
The NCCA inventory records Mga Kaugalian sa Libing ng Sulod across areas of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Iloilo. Their inclusion in the national inventory shows that funeral customs can preserve important cultural knowledge.
Burial is therefore not simply a physical procedure but can involve a larger system of inherited beliefs and social practices.
