Traditional basketry in Poland involves more than weaving objects together. Artisans need knowledge about selecting, preparing, and processing natural plant materials before weaving them into baskets and other objects.
Different communities have developed their own techniques and designs. The knowledge is traditionally passed from experienced craftspeople to younger generations. Basketry can serve both practical and decorative purposes.
UNESCO included Basketry traditions on its Representative List in 2025. The tradition shows how everyday household objects can preserve regional craftsmanship for generations.
