The Ilocano Bubo is a traditional fish trap documented in the Philippine Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory.
It was used in communities where fishing formed an important part of local livelihood, particularly around rivers, streams, coastal areas, and mangroves.
Traditional fish traps require knowledge of local waters and an understanding of how fish move through them.
Their construction also reflects knowledge of available materials and the surrounding environment.
What looks like a simple fishing device can therefore represent generations of practical environmental knowledge. The NCCA recognizes this knowledge as part of Ilocano intangible heritage.
