One important feature of many Philippine cultural traditions is learning through participation and observation. In Aklan piña weaving, for example, children can grow up watching older family members cultivate pineapple and weave fibers before eventually learning the skills themselves.

In the School of Living Traditions, practitioners deliberately teach younger community members through hands-on learning.

This means cultural knowledge isn't necessarily something learned from a written manual.

Techniques, songs, rituals, and values can be absorbed through repeated participation alongside experienced elders.

The approach helps keep cultural traditions connected to the communities that actually practice them.
