Jordan has a cultural tradition known as Al-Mihrass tree: knowledge, skills and rituals associated with it. The heritage includes knowledge and practices connected to the tree, along with rituals transmitted within communities.
It demonstrates that traditional heritage isn't always a festival or performance—it can also involve relationships between people, plants, and their surrounding environment.
Knowledge about the tree and its associated practices is passed between generations. UNESCO added this tradition to the Representative List in 2025. It is a fascinating example of how a particular tree can become part of a community's cultural identity.
