The Subanon Harvest Rites are traditional agricultural practices recorded among Subanon communities in the Zamboanga region.
Rice has historically been an important crop in Subanon upland communities, where farming is closely connected with the surrounding environment.
Harvest-related rituals recognize that obtaining food is not simply a physical agricultural process but also has a spiritual dimension. Traditional Subanon ritual life includes ceremonies intended to maintain proper relationships with spiritual beings associated with the community and its livelihood.
These practices can involve ritual specialists, offerings, and community participation. The harvest therefore becomes more than the collection of rice from a field. It reflects a cultural system in which farming, spirituality, and community responsibilities are interconnected.
