Researchers analyzed conversations and speed-dating interactions to examine question-asking.

People who asked more questions—particularly follow-up questions—were better liked by their conversation partners.

During speed dating, participants who asked more follow-up questions were also more likely to receive agreement to a second date.

Follow-up questions can signal responsiveness because they show you're actually paying attention to what the other person said.

The finding doesn't mean turning a date into an interview.

It suggests that genuine interest can be surprisingly attractive.
