So more or less, by experience lang talaga ang learning process diyan. Dapat hands-on mo din talaga mae-experience yan.
Don't discourage them from learning. Hindi porke't mas knowledgeable tayo about networking eh we will discourage them from learning.

need ba iconfigure ang openwrt? haha akala ko plug n play lng.. tas change pass or whatever like other wifi APs

to be honest straightforward lng openwrt, sobrang basic ng config..
may mas malalim pa diyan...lalo kung mag-a-add ka ng packages like QoS...tsaka kung magko-configure ka ng firewall rules and routing rules...tsaka VLANs....

It's not as simple as 1-2-3. Same sila ni Mikrotik at PFSense.

di basic yan pag mag openwrt build ka dapat unli reset yung firmware mo kahit ginawa mo yan di matatangal yung ibang features nandon.may opewrt router own build gamit lang vps para makapag build ng firmware

yeah but it should still work out of the box without VLANs.

i beg to disagree, mas malala ang Mikrotik hahha, naka spoonfeed at abstract lahat sayo sa openwrt, with firewall zones. Ang dual/multi wan naka package na rin, no need to think about prerouting, postrouting chains, packet mangling kasi meron na packages that will do it for you with point and click

I will suggest to use a fully build firmware sa mga supported routers kesa sa snapshot lang, well hindi pang beginners talaga ang mga yan, you need a time to study naman hehe, anyway itatry ko yan check ko muna yung specs. thanks for sharing.

i just checked the specs, okay lang naman specs pero mas far na sulit parin ang neWifi D2 kung hindi kasama ang wifi6.

Kaya mas sulit parin si Newifi D2 compare to that, one factors is Very Stable sa Openwrt additionally is the compatibility, halos lahat ng nailagay kong package sa kanya gumagana. I will definitely recommend Newifi D2 than this.
