Using a single Gmail account to register multiple accounts on various platforms is possible due to Gmail's unique handling of "plus addressing." Here's how it works:
What is Plus Addressing in Gmail?
Gmail ignores any characters after a "+" (plus) sign in the email address, along with the plus sign itself. This means emails sent to xxxx1@gmail.com and xxxx1+001@gmail.com will land in the same inbox, even though they appear as different addresses to most platforms. How to Use Plus Addressing:
You can use this feature to register multiple accounts on any platform by adding different variations of your Gmail address. For example, if your email is xxxx1@gmail.com, you can register on multiple platforms using addresses like:Benefits of Using Plus Addressing:
- Organizing Emails: You can easily filter or label emails based on the plus-address variation used (e.g., xxxx1+shopping@gmail.com can be filtered into a "Shopping" folder).
- Tracking Registrations: This allows you to track which services may have shared your email address. If you start receiving spam on a specific variation, you’ll know where it originated.
- Multiple Accounts on a Single Platform: If a platform restricts users to one account per email, using xxxx1+001@gmail.com, xxxx1+002@gmail.com, and so on allows you to create multiple accounts with the same Gmail inbox.
Example:
If you need to create two separate accounts on the same platform but only have one Gmail address, you could use:- xxxx1+personal@gmail.com for your personal account.
- xxxx1+business@gmail.com for your business account.
Important Notes:
- Some platforms may not accept plus addressing as valid, though this is rare.
- Gmail also ignores periods (".") in the username. So xxxx.1@gmail.com and x.x.x.x.1@gmail.com will also direct emails to the same inbox.
