Zebras are actually black animals with white stripes. This means that if you were to shave a zebra's fur, you would find that their skin is black. The stripes on their fur are caused by a pigment called melanin, which is responsible for the coloration of their hair. The reason why the stripes appear white is due to the way the melanin is distributed in their fur. The melanin is concentrated in the black areas, while the white areas have less melanin. So, although it may seem like zebras are white with black stripes, their true coloration is black with white stripes.
