Firmware locked is equivalent to BIOS locked sa PC but for Apple may ibang procedure para iunlock yan you need a hardware to reset the Firmware chip sa board

MBP late 2013 I think can still run Big Sur this is the problem talaga kasi mostly the apps are upgrading and can only run on newer OS but your Macbook can only run up to a specific OS and not the new one unless you do workaround but like you said it will not run smoothly because the hardware is not compatible.

There are some other ways to bypass it based on knowledge but I'm sure some features are limited like can't access app store and iMessage and facetime not working

Wow, Nice one TS. kaso bihira kasi mac user sa pinas, feeling ko nasa 5% lang or baka lower pa, sige ask kita TS once may nagpagawa saken ng mac na di ko kaya i-handle
