Early One Piece
Early One Piece Unnamed Garp was introduced in Romance Dawn V.2 (featured in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine itself) as Luffy’s grandfather. For a long time, it was first thought that Luffy’s unnamed Grandfather was a sole addition to Romance Dawn V.2. Some aspects of his character remain from Romance Dawn version 2. He is as hot tempered as ever and intolerable to Luffy’s antics. Like the final version, he was determined to make Luffy follow in his footsteps, however here he is a pìrâ†é captain, a complete opposite of his current occupation. Both stories have in return Luffy completely rejecting the idea of following in his grandfather’s footsteps. Garp now adorns a dog hat and compared to his chubby Romance Dawn V.2 version, his upper...
Strawhats’ favorite dishes to cook
Strawhats’ favorite dishes to cook D: In the Straw Hat Crew, Sanji is obviously the one who is the best at cooking, but who else is good at cooking? What is everyone’s speciality dish? P.N. I created the praying mantis rooster. O: Well then, I’ll be presenting to you what each member is best at making. (Luffy: Raw Meat on a Plate, Zoro: Sashimi, Nami: Roasted Duck with Orange Sauce, Usopp: Fish & Chips, Chopper: Mixed Juice, Robin: Boiled Paella, Franky: Barbecue, Brook: Churrasco) Sanji is the best at cooking seafood, but he is overall good at making just about anything. Also, this has to do with how these characters grew up, but generally the ones other than Sanji who can actually do some decent cooking would be narrowed down to...
Crocodile was a woman – Myth & Fact
Crocodile was a woman – Myth & Fact Myth: Ivankov knows a secret from Crocodile’s past, that nobody else knows, and Ivankov can change people’s gender, leading to speculation that Crocodile used to be a woman and had Ivankov change her to a him. In Episode 0 we only see the back of Crocodile’s head, suggesting that he was different back then and that Oda wants to keep it a secret for now. Fact: So far, nothing has been confirmed. In the SBS for Volume 63 Oda drew the Shichibukai as children, and Crocodile appears to be depicted as a boy, although some have speculated that Crocodile could be a girl who dresses like a tomboy, but Oda has not yet stated anything one way or the other.
What is happening in Zou?
What is happening in Zou? The Straw Hat Pirates continue riding Kanjuro’s dragon up Zou’s leg, and Usopp complains that his arms are tiring yet there is still no sight of the peak. Luffy then asks Kin’emon and Kanjuro what business they have on Zou, and Kanjuro reveals that they wanted to check on Momonosuke and to see whether their last comrade has landed here: a ninja named Raizo. The Straw Hats and Law react in shock to the news that he is a ninja, when suddenly Robin notices something falling toward them from above.
Zoro’s books
Zoro’s books D: “In Whereupon We Ask Odacchi A Question”. [The letter writer is sounding like Sweet Pea, so this is my approximation of how Sweet Pea would sound like in English. It goes on through the letter. -N] Inside Sunny-go, there’s a splendid bookshelf, isn’t there? And in that bookshelf are “everyone except Luffy’s books”! But! There’s one person in the crew that I simply cannot imagine reading. And that is… Zoro. What sort of books could he possibly be reading? Please tell me! O: It certainly does seem like books don’t suit Zoro very well. But rather than reading books, you could say that he views them. Diagrams from books on martial arts, illustrations of weapons, collections of high-level bounties and so on. He looks at them.
Inspiration for Thriller Bark
Inspiration for Thriller Bark D: Is the Thriller Bark story inspired by things like The Addams Family and The Nightmare Before Christmas? I love the atmosphere in those films. P.N. Plate-loving Cindry-chan O: Yes, the films. I love them too. In order to draw Thriller Bark, I even watched a lot of zombie movies, which I’ve never really done before. By my nature, I don’t like scary things, so even though I put a lot more black into the art, I still tried to make silly, funny zombies. When artists draw about ghosts and dead people and things that aren’t meant for polite society, they always go to the shrine to pray beforehand… as did I. I mean, I don’t want to get cursed or anything.

Inspiration for the Gear Fourth
Inspiration for the Gear Fourth D: Oda-sensei! Hello. I think that Luffy’s pose in his G4 form resembles that of the two Devas. Is there a special meaning behind it? Next time, when I have a dispute with my dear, I want to use this pose, I think. P.N. Sanadacchi Oda: You’re married, right? Instead of Luffy’s G4, you should do a dogeza (bowing) like Fujitora, isn’t it better for your body? Hahaha…Yes, it’s the pose of the two Devas! Well, I thought about ideas for power-ups from around the world, so the strong impression of the earlier Japan is what caught my attention.
Here are the Biggest Unsolved Mysteries in One Piece
Here are the Biggest Unsolved Mysteries in One Piece #15-Who is “Joy Boy”? “Joy Boy” was a man from the surface world who played an important role in the history of Fishman Island. He was first mentioned on the Ryugu Poneglyph read by Nico Robin while at the Sea Forest #14-How powerful are the Gorosei? The Gorosei (literally meaning “Five Elder Stars”) are the heads of the World Government, and as such, they essentially rule the entire world. They are the five men who rule above the Marines, Cipher Pol, and the ones who made a pact with the Shichibukai. So far, none of their names have been revealed. #13-How did Blackbeard acquire multiple devil powers? #12-What Happened to Zoro’s Left Eye? #11-How do Devil Fruits work...
Tashigi was embarrassed
Tashigi was embarrassed D: In chapter 692, there’s a scene where Nami and Luffy reunite. You can see a stocky-looking sailor who appears to be carrying Tashigi on his shoulder. That’s her, right?! Why is she riding him? She told Zoro, “Let me down when we find my men.” Is Zoro really that worried about her health? Heehee. –Someta O: Well spotted. Yes, that is Tashigi, but that wasn’t on Zoro’s orders. I think Tashigi being embarrassed by Zoro was simply that she didn’t want her subordinates to see her being helped by a pìrâ†é, but being carried by her own men is different. I suppose she might be embarrassed in a different way, though. I don’t really know how young women think.
Franky hairystles
Franky hairystles Franky is strong-willed, eccentric, free-spirited, and often has a blatant disregard for rules. He does whatever he wants whenever he wants, though he usually wants little more than to build powerful ships or protect those he cares about and at times can appear very eccentric compared to most of the crew because of his strange mannerisms and knack for building odd things (such as his Franky Centaur). And as evidenced in the Punk Hazard Arc, Franky also seems to handle children well. As soon as he entered the playroom with his comrades, the children, more notably the boys, immediately took notice. Franky was forthright in displaying his many robotic capabilities, including his ability to change hairstyles by pressing...
Straw Hat Pirates’ Dreams
Straw Hat Pirates’ Dreams Monkey D. Luffy – Luffy`s dream is to become the pìrâ†é King like Gol D Roger. He started dreaming when he was a child in the East Blue which is his home town. His idol is pìrâ†é Shanks which eventually became one of the pìrâ†é’s Emperor. Roronoa Zoro – Zoro’s dream is to become the world’s greatest swordsman. His dream started when he was a child where he can’t beat his childhood rival opponent. In order to achieve it he needs to compete to all swordsman in the world and beat them all. He is also dreaming to defeat the Swordsman king Dracule Mihawk in order to become the world’s greatest swordsman. Black Leg Sanji – Sanji’s dream is to find the legendary place All Blue. In this place all the fishes and...
Why is Mihawk the “Strongest” Swordsman
Why is Mihawk the “Strongest” Swordsman True to his epithet, “Hawk Eyes”, Dracule Mihawk has exceptional eyesight, able to easily track Luffy’s high-speed Gear Second movements, and strike with extreme precision, releasing a long-range slash at him while there was a chaotic battlefront of New World pirates and Marine officers between them. In addition, he is also a talented teacher: after training Zoro for two years, he accomplished more than the dojo had achieved in the many years Zoro had trained there (though it helped that Zoro’s skills were already greatly developed by the time he became Mihawk’s disciple). Zoro himself even admitted that even after training with Mihawk during the entirety of the (time-skip), while talking down to...
The tears of a man
The tears of a man Senor Pink once had a wife and son. Senor Pink lied that he was a banker so his wife would not hate him. His relationship with his wife became strained after his son died of a fever and his wife learned that he was not a banker. After his wife got into an accident and was reduced to a vegetative state, Senor Pink dressed like a baby because that was the only thing that made her smile. Even after her alleged death, Pink continues to wear the infant clothes to this day, showing a deep sign of lingering love for her.
How many people would Shanks and the others be able to defeat?
How many people would Shanks and the others be able to defeat? D: Luffy’s haoshoku haki was able to affect 50,000 men, but how many would Shanks and the others be able to defeat? P.N. Captain Nobuo O: In exactly the same place and exact same situation as Luffy, Shanks or Rayleigh may have been capable of knocking out all 100,000. In a different setting, you can’t really compare just by asking “how many people”. Being able to knock an enemy out with haki depends entirely on having an overwhelming power gap between the two. In Luffy’s case the point is the number of people that were so weak that they were not even worth him fighting. If there were 100,000 to-some-extent-strong-willed pirates before him, it’s possible that he wouldn’t...
Ace’s last words
Ace’s last words D: Right before Ace died, he couldn’t speak very loudly, so he asked for his final words to be told to everyone, afterwards. Did Luffy ever end up passing on the message “Thank you for loving me” to everyone? P.N. Otohimememe O: I see. He really did promise that, yeah. But as events unfolded, it doesn’t seem like Luffy was able to meet with the Whitebeard Pirates’ crew members. But, that’s alright. Those crew members loved Ace and went to war as a result of that love, so not a single one of them would resent not directly receiving any words of thanks. At that time, Ace had a different wish. The thing that he made Luffy promise to “tell everyone afterwards” was what, exactly? To survive. So I think that those last few...
Why Zoro and Franky didn’t do the pinky promise
Why Zoro and Franky didn’t do the pinky promise D: In chapter 653, when Shirahoshi and the crew promised to go on a walk in a real forest the next time they met, why did Zoro and Franky not do the pinky promise?! –Yuminami Kobayashi Cat O: Hmm… seems like many people were bothered by this. There’s no real deep meaning to this, but based on the path the story traveled and the individual characters’ actions, it seemed like maybe those two in particular hadn’t had much interaction with Shirahoshi, so why would they feel the need to hold out their pinkies? Of course, given that their captain and crewmates made that promise, I’m sure Zoro and Franky felt just like the rest of them, don’t worry.
Who cuts the Strawhats’ hair
Who cuts the Strawhats’ hair D: The crew’s hair has to grow out on those long voyages, right? Does someone give the rest haircuts? Nami or Robin, perhaps? –I Want to be a Hairdresser O: True, their hair does grow out. So who gives haircuts on the crew? Why, it’s Zoro. He turns on the rest and goes, “Tiger Trap!!” Just kidding!! What the hell, man?!! I’m gonnawhupyer behind!! Shuer yerpiehole!! Why, I oughtta!! The real answer is prolly Usopp or Robin. Maybe I should draw a heart-warmin’ picture of a haircut someday. *The weird way in which Oda-sensei replied was because the previous reader asked him to speak in Kansai dialect
What Blackbeard has originally supposed to be
What Blackbeard has originally supposed to be In One Piece green databook it is written that Blackbeard was originally supposed to be so strong that he was even unbeatable by the three admirals. The truth is, this statement is actually a misinterpretation. In the original setting for BB’s power, Oda did make him very strong. In his early design, BB was unable to feel hot, cold, pain or even numbness. His only weakness was being unable to swim.. Taking this information into consideration, the editor who wrote the databook just assumed that maybe he could even take out the three admirals with his powers.. Furthermore, Marshall D Teach was originally named as Everything D Teach. There were crewmates such as King Joker, Lape Jesus...
Difference between Zoro and Sanji
Difference between Zoro and Sanji D: Oda sensei. I am currently faced with a big problem!!! My family just can’t understand the difference between Zoro and Sanji!!! So that even people like them can understand, I’d like to request you to draw some impactful illustrations differentiating the two in a way that they will never forget again. O: This is Zoro. This is Sanji. Zoro. Sanji. Zoro. Sanji. Zoro. Sanji. Zoro. Sanji. Zoro. Sanji.
If the Straw Hats were different prefectures of Japan, what they would be?
If the Straw Hats were different prefectures of Japan, what they would be? D: Mr. Oda, hello! If the Straw Hats were different prefectures of Japan, what they would be? For example, would Nami be from Ehime, I’d love to hear from you! P.N. T. Rina O: Tell you what, I’ll answer these both at the same time. Luffy Straw Hat-ya Okinawa Zoro Zoro-ya Hokkaido Nami Nami-ya Ehime Usopp Nose-ya Kanagawa Sanji Black Leg-ya Kyoto Chopper Tony-ya Toyama Robin Nico-ya Osaka Franky Robo-ya Nagasaki Brook Bone-ya Tottori O: I think that should do it. Some of those prefectures were probably influenced by the voice actors’ hometowns. (laughs)
Could it be?
Could it be? Kuina had come to the conclusion that Zoro would soon pass her in skill and strength. This is because she believed that boys grow up to be stronger than girls, and she noticed just how much Zoro had already caught up to her current skills. So, when she started growing breasts, she became discouraged. Zoro then told her that if he ever beat her, it was because of his skills. The fact that he was a boy and she was a girl did not matter. It was his goal to be as good as her. They promised that one of them would become the greatest swordsman in the world. However, the day after making their vow, Zoro learned she had fallen down the stairs while trying to get a sharpening block and died. Zoro was angry with her, accusing her of...
Higher rank of devil fruits
Higher rank of devil fruits D: The powers of the Donquixote executives in the Dressrosa arc…”ton ton -> kilo kilo” “beta beta -> doru doru” “buki buki -> supa supa” “pamu pamu -> bomu bomu”, are they of a higher tier than those of the Baroque Works members? Taoka S43 Oda: Powers of a higher tier exist indeed, for now it’s the following 4. ton ton > kilo kilo ; hie hie > yuki yuki ; magu magu > mera mera ; buki buki > supa supa And there are some more of the same sort, and such that are rather doubtful, but it’s also a question of who is using the fruit and how. And the strength of a fruit doesn’t equal the strength of the character. You can never know which fight will occur, and how it ends.
Gear Fourth!
Gear Fourth! In this form, Luffy’s Busoshoku Haki takes the shape of tribal flames on his body. This is the first example of Busoshoku Haki forming a recognizable pattern. The position of Luffy’s hands to perform Leo Bazooka highly resembles the Kamehameha stance from the Dragon Ball series, a manga that highly inspired Oda. Similarly to Gear 2nd, Gear 4th allows Luffy to use techniques that appear to be his own reimagining of Rokushiki abilities, his pseudo-flight bears a striking resemblance to Geppo, and Leo Bazooka is seemingly reminiscent of Rokuogan (with Gear 2nd allowing Luffy to move at a speed similar to Soru)
Epic!
Epic! Luffy developed the best way to use his devil fruit power. We were able to see some devil fruit users who could only use the basic attacks, and they were laughing his rubber ability out, but when you combine it with haki it looks invincible. The rubber allows him to widen his skin and to create balloon like muscles, that he covers in haki and than everyone is watching him in amazement. Gear 2. was taking away his lifespan, but he got even that under control. He still can’t make full armament haki like Vergo but I bet we will see that too in several years.
A shocking revelation! What happened on Zou?!
A shocking revelation! What happened on Zou?! I really loved this chapter, even if it felt a bit short. We got a flashback of Jack invading Zou, we met the badass Duke and we found out Caesar’s weapons are behind Zou’s destruction… All in all, a solid chapter and worth the longer than usual wait. First of all, it’s nice to see a clearer profile of Jack finally, even though it’s just him in his mammoth form (and what’s with that hairstyle? XD). Can’t wait to see his human form. It’s now confirmed that Jack is Kaido’s subordinate, not only that but a Right hand man. From what we’ve seen, there are three tiers of power in the Kaido ranks: Calamities, Gifters and Pleasures. The plot was known so far, but the execution by Oda-sensei was...
Luffy’s G4/G5
Luffy’s G4/G5 Luffy sure amazed us and looked so “hardo boildo” when he showed the G2 for the first time, it was a new power-up and it was the first time he showed how useful his Devil Fruit actually is. Right after that he exceeded all out expectations by showing G3. It was the best fight ever! Half giant Luffy and with the side affect (the side affect is that Luffy becomes small after it’s use) was going way over the top. Now on the current Dressrosa arc, we have seen the new power-up – G4(still only in manga version). It kinda looks like Nightmare Luffy. Luffy coats his arm in Busoshoku Haki before biting into his forearm. Similar to how he activates Gear Third, he blows an incredible amount of air into his body, but this time he...
