D.A. Oks Importing 16,000 tons Of White Onion .
The Department of Agriculture has approved the importation of 16,000 metric tons of white onions due to its dwindling supply in the country. Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr confirmed that he has approved the order last Monday. "Ang stocks natin [ng white onion] sa bansa ay depleted na. But marami pa tayong red onion. Ang red onion natin is good until March of next year. So, limited quantity lang ito ng white onion na ini-import para lang to stabilize prices of white onions," Tiu Laurel said. Tiu Laurel said the DA timed the importation so it won't coincide with the harvest of local onions by early next year.
