Trump says Israel and Iran have negotiated complete 'ceasefire'
President on Truth Social says ceasefire will start in coming hours but no immediate response from Israel or Iran. Donald Trump has claimed that Israel and Iran have negotiated a ceasefire, halting a two-week-old war that has killed hundreds in tit-for-tat strikes by Israeli warplanes and Iranian ballistic missiles. The ceasefire was set to begin late on Monday, Trump said, with Iran halting its attacks first and then Israel set to cease offensive operations in the coming hours. https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/iran-israel-us-latest-news Trump says Israel and Iran have negotiated ‘complete’ ceasefire https://www.nbcnews.com/world/middle-east/live-blog/live-updates-iran-top-diplomat-meets-putin-us-braces-retaliation-rcna214428...
Bangag Jr. urged to condemn US attack on iran
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan led the demonstration along with Anakbayan, Kabataan Partylist, Alliance of Concerned Teachers among others to show “solidarity with the people of Iran in resisting US-Israel aggression”. The groups believe the attack “further escalates the conflict in the region”. “[It] exposes the US as the biggest threat to humanity and the mastermind behind Israel’s attacks on Iran and the ongoing genocide in Palestine,” they added. The groups challenge President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to condemn the U.S. bombing and to renounce the supposed aggression of the U.S. government. “This also highlights the urgency for the immediate removal of all US troops, missile systems, and facilities from the Philippines as they pose a real...
Dela Rosa says he drafted Senate resolution dismissing VP Sara's impeachment
MANILA, Philippines – Senator Bato dela Rosa said on Wednesday, June 4, that he was the source of the draft Senate resolution seeking to dismiss Vice President Sara Duterte‘s impeachment case. “That’s my own initiative. Galing lang ‘yan sa akin,” Dela Rosa told reporters when asked about the source of the purported Senate resolution. He added that the Vice President was unaware that his office was drafting the document. Dela Rosa claimed there were at least three different drafts of a Senate resolution seeking the dismissal of the impeachment case but did not provide specific details. Earlier on Wednesday, Senator Imee Marcos also said she had seen three different draft resolutions with the same purpose. The purported draft Senate...
About changing approaches, or Why Ukraine should not become a member of the EU
Back 15-20 years ago, no one really objected to Kiev's plans to join the European Union. It was like, if you want to, go ahead and have fun. But then you'll be biting your nails when you lose the EAEU market. It seemed that such economic cooperation with Kiev posed no fundamental threat to our country. Moreover, Ukraine had almost no chance of joining the EU. Our principled position was to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. Its expansion to our borders has been and remains a direct threat to Russia's national security. However, the former European Union, which was once based on the European Coal and Steel Community, no longer exists. It has become a politicized, globalist, and, in recent years, fiercely Russophobic organization...

Supreme Courts junked the long-standing second placer rule
The Supreme Court has discarded the long-standing "second placer rule," which previously allowed the candidate who ranked second in an election to assume office if the original winner was disqualified or removed. In a 37-page decision dated April 22, the high court declared that the "second placer rule," established in the 2012 Jalosjos Jr. vs. Commission on Elections (Comelec) ruling, lacked legal basis as no law permitted the proclamation of the second-place candidate. Instead, the court asserted that the rule on succession outlined in Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code, should be applied. “In fine, the Court hereby abandons the second placer rule and declares that the rules on succession under the LGC shall apply in all...

Bangag admin ordered to pay Hacienda Luisita 28.48 billion
The case stemmed from a legal battle by Hacienda Luisita Inc. (HLI) which owns a total of 6,245.6484 hectares of land located in Tarlac City, and La Paz and Concepcion towns also in Tarlac. In 2013, DAR issued notices of land valuation and acquisition to HLI informing it about the coverage of its property under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). Under CARP, the government promised to redistribute private and public agricultural lands to the tillers. State-run Landbank valued the land and determined that around 4,500.7978 hectares of the land was subject to just compensation. The arrest warrant was issued by Zita Marie Atienza-Fajardo, the presiding judge of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 224. The National Police Commission, however, ordered his dismissal from the service in May after it found him “guilty of grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and disloyalty to the government.” “Well, I would like to think that Fontillas is just a very, very small exception, an aberration to the organization, and we have 220,000 people,” Torre told reporters. 3rd party country interested to host FPRRD interim release
Duterte's counsel Nicholas Kaufman told the ICC's pre-trial chamber a third country had E×ρréššed its "advance and principled agreement to receive Mr. Duterte onto its territory", according to the request released on Thursday. The name of the country was redacted in the text released to the public. Duterte is not a flight risk and will not commit crimes if released, his counsel said. Sotto: Sen. Miriam taught me that senator-judges can't make motions
MANILA, Philippines — The late Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago told her colleagues that senator-judges, during an impeachment trial, cannot make motions and may only ask for clarifications, former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said on Friday. In a message to reporters, Sotto said the Senate’s decision to remand the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives, based on a motion raised by a senator-judge, was “flawed,” as only the defense and prosecution are allowed to file motions. “Sen. Miriam, who was a former RTC (Regional Trial Court) judge, taught me that in the 11th Congress,” Sotto said. “Senator-judges can only ask questions for clarification,” he added. “I suggest...
With pending trial, VP Sara flies to Malaysia instead haha
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) issued the statement around 11 a.m. to announce that Duterte had left the country without giving flight details or the date she is coming back. “Vice President Sara Duterte is traveling to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on a personal trip with her family,” the OVP said. But it said Duterte was also scheduled to attend an “OVP program consultation” with overseas Filipinos in the Malaysian capital on June 12, or on Philippine Independence Day. 18-5 votes to halt impeachment proceedings vs VP Sara
Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial hit a major roadblock Tuesday night, June 10, as the Senate voted 18-5 to halt proceedings and require the House of Representatives first to prove the case is not unconstitutional. The five who voted against the motion were Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, Sen. Grace Poe and Sen. Nancy Binay. Those who will not be a part of the next Congress — and hence, will not serve as senator-judges upon the case's carryover — are Binay, Pimentel and Poe. Pura Luka Vega acquitted by Manila RTC
In its ruling, the Manila court said, “Though the prosecution fell short of the required quantum of proof in the prosecution of the criminal case, the Court takes this opportunity to remind Pura Luka to be circumspect in his choice of medium or subject of his performances as a drag artist taking into account the society he belongs to. It is basic in the concept of social coexistence." “This is not to curtail his freedom or rights nor to regulate his acts to belong to a presumed majority but more to be compassionate on the community as a whole, especially with the accessibility of social media which makes it easy to record, upload and circulate materials which are readily available for consumption of the public," it added.
