Android Keyboard with Tagalog Language Prediction

Once dubbed as the texting capital of the world, Philippines is an sms powerhouse back in the day when messages are typed on an alphanumeric keypad and abbreviated in order to economize the 160 character set- and so local textspeak language was born! Back to the present, with flourishing social media usage in the country, texting becomes much more sophisticated with abundance of online messaging service and apps. As such, using textspeak is getting a bad rap these days and deemed inexcusable form of online social interaction.

Typing on mobile devices got is easier with text prediction. Even better, having a local language prediction is quite convenient typing tool – just like the following third-party keyboard app with downloadable Tagalog language prediction. Check them out below.

Swiftkey – (Free on Play Store)
Among the top choice when it comes to third party keyboard on both IOS and Android is the Swiftkey app and for good reason. It has a good autocorrect and predictive text feature for English language and Tagalog/Filipino language can be added to the mix of multiple language you can use. It is free to get on the store with in-app purchase in the form of themes you can buy.

Swype – (~Php44 on Play Store)
This keyboard revolutionize the virtual keyboard for faster and more accurate typing just by sliding your finger onto the screen and it supports Tagalog language that predicts word as you type – or as you slide.

Fleksy (free on Play Store)
The most unique aspect of this keyboard is its simplicity. Arguably the best looking of the bunch and its minimalism makes it stand out. It has gone free, just like Swiftkey so there is no reason not to try this one out. Unfortunately, Tagalog language is still in beta and decision to develop further rests on whether it will receive sufficient amount of interest from users. So be sure to vote if you want to see the language get supported.
Update: Tagalog is already downloadable, along with other languages but as of this writing, it is still in Beta.

Google Keyboard (free on Play Store)

The already great Android keyboard is made even better as it continually gets updated with features that elevate it as among the best out there. It comes with very handy gesture typing, that allows you to slide your finger onto the keyboard as it predicts the word. Even better, Filipino is already available in its trove of predictive dictionaries for local users who don’t like to use text speak in their conversation. If it is not on by default, you can go to your phone’s Setting then select “Language and Keyboard (or Input)”, then click “Google Keyboard”, the select “Dictionary”, then click “Add-on dictionaries” and then download Filipino from the roster of languages.
