woke up
and the first thing i did
was check my phone
for a message
that wasn’t there//

and here
the afternoon arrives
still nothing
it’s almost 4 p.m.
my fingers fumble
as i attempt to create a message
nothing deep-seated
or the usual
lengthy words i usually sent
just something simple
don’t want to seem clingy
with much difficulty
erasing what I wrote
antsy, overthinking
putting my phone away
reluctantly//

the moon is out now
looking heavy,
teary,
bathed in silver,
and coated in white
suspended like a pearl
in the stillness of the sky
stars twinkling
as the darkness covers the sun
and still nothing
and now I feel like nothing
someone feeling something
for someone who feels nothing
or not enough
to be concerned with
whether or not we communicate
waiting for something that won’t happen
losing sleep over someone
who sleeps peacefully
and what hurts the most
is that tomorrow it’ll begin again
this feeling is never ceasing
it's a spiraling,
catastrophic cycle.
