Appreciation doesn’t only feel good in the moment.

Research found that people who felt more appreciated by their romantic partners also tended to feel more appreciative toward those partners.

Greater appreciation was then associated with being more responsive to a partner’s needs and greater commitment.

The researchers also found evidence connecting appreciation with remaining together over time.

In other words, feeling valued can encourage behaviors that help maintain the relationship.
