Skate 3 is a skateboarding game, developed by EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts. It was released on May 11, 2010 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and is the third title in the Skate series, a sequel to the 2009 game Skate 2.
The game takes place in the fictional city of Port Carverton, which embraces skateboarding, unlike the "skaters aren't criminals" mentality present in the second game. Although the city is more colorful and friendly than Skate 2, which features desaturated colors and gray streets, the gameplay remains similar to the first two games. Port Carverton is made up of three districts: Downtown, University, and Industrial.
Several notable professional skateboarders appear during the game, such as Darren Navarette, Terry Kennedy, Eric Koston, Chris Cole, Pat Duffy, and Jason Lee.
In contrast to the original Skate game, two new difficulty levels have been added: "Easy" and "Hardcore". The "Easy" mode allows the player to perform tricks more easily and provides greater control of the character. The "Hardcore" mode attempts to provide more realistic skateboarding gameplay, requiring the player to execute tricks with precision. The game also features an introductory "Skate School," where coach Frank (Jason Lee) teaches the player the basics of skateboarding, such as grinds and ollies. This new feature is optional, and the area can also be visited in free mode.
