Celeste is a platform video game developed by Canadians Maddy Thorson and Noel Berry, with art by the Brazilian studio MiniBoss. The game was originally created as a four-day prototype during a game jam, and was later expanded into its full release. Celeste was released in January 2018 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, macOS, and Linux. The game received critical acclaim and won "Best Independent Game" and "Most Impactful Game" awards at The Game Awards 2018, as well as being nominated for "Game of the Year" and "Best Soundtrack" at the same awards ceremony.

Celeste is a platform game in which players control a girl named Madeline as she climbs a mountain, avoiding various deadly obstacles. In addition to jumping and climbing walls for a limited time, Madeline has the ability to perform a dash on the ground or in mid-air in the eight cardinal directions. This move can only be performed once and must be replenished, either by landing on the ground or hitting certain objects, such as crystals (although the player receives a second collision later in the game). Throughout each level, the player will encounter additional mechanics, such as springs that launch the player or feathers that allow for brief flight, and deadly objects like spikes that kill Madeline (returning her to the beginning of the section). Less skilled players can also access an "Assist Mode," where they can alter some attributes of the game's physics. Some of these include: infinite air dashes, invincibility, or slowing down the game speed. Hidden within each level are optional strawberries, obtained through challenging platforming sections or puzzles, which slightly affect the game's ending depending on how many are collected. Additionally, there are cassette tapes that unlock harder "B-Side" variations of certain levels, and crystal hearts used to access post-game content. Beating all the "B-Sides" then unlocks the "C-Side" versions, which consist of much harder, but slightly different, variations on the levels. Upon clearing all the "C-Sides," the player can access the Variants menu. The Variants menu allows players to alter the game's physics in a manner similar to Assist Mode. Some of these "variant" settings include: speeding up the game, 360-degree rotation, and low friction on all flat surfaces. These settings serve to make the game more challenging or more fun. The original prototype of "Celeste Classic" for the Pico-8 console can also be found as a hidden minigame.
