Traditional tugging rituals and games in the Philippines include forms of communal pulling contests that have been practiced in different cultural settings.
These activities can be associated with festivals, agricultural cycles, celebrations, and community gatherings.
They are not simply tests of physical strength—the social setting and ritual context can be just as important. Children and adults can participate, allowing knowledge of the games to move between generations.
The Philippines shares this multinational heritage element with Cambodia, Korea, and Vietnam.
UNESCO inscribed Tugging rituals and games on the Representative List in 2015.
