Hinarang ng mga awtoridad sa checkpoint ang mga miyembro ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front na patungo sa Lanao del Norte.
Ayon kay Philippine National Police–Public Information Office Acting Chief PCol. Allen Rae Co, walang koordinasyon ang grupo kaya hindi sila pinalampas ng mga pulis at sundalo.
