A 2026 research review discusses evidence suggesting that attachment style may influence which couple activities are beneficial.

For people higher in attachment anxiety, familiar and comfortable activities buffered relationship satisfaction, whereas exciting novel activities didn't show the same benefit.

That means “keep your relationship exciting” isn't necessarily universal advice.

Some people may connect more effectively through novelty and exploration.

Others may benefit particularly from experiences that provide familiarity, predictability, and security.

The best date may therefore depend partly on what makes the two people involved actually feel connected.
