Google has relaunched its back-to-school student promotion for 2026, and the official page confirms exactly what's being announced: eligible college students can claim a full year of Gemini access at no cost, with the tier depending on your country.
What's included in the offer
US college students aged 18–24 qualify for a full year of Google AI Pro free of charge, which includes 4x higher Gemini usage limits, 5 TB of storage, Gemini Spark, and one year of access to Gemini Omni. Students in 140+ other countries and territories get a free year of Google AI Plus instead, a lighter tier than Pro but still a major upgrade over the free version of Gemini. Both new users and students whose 2025 free trial already expired are eligible to redeem again, though eligibility must be re-verified each year via SheerID.
Key terms and deadlines
- Redemption window: offer must be claimed by December 31, 2026.
- A valid payment method is required at signup, and unless you cancel before the trial ends, it auto-renews at USD 19.99/month for AI Pro (or the local Plus price, e.g. MYR 23.99/month in Malaysia).
- Eligibility: you must be 1☍+, actively enrolled at a qualifying higher-education institution, and verified as a student through SheerID.
- Family group members and existing higher-tier subscribers are generally excluded from redeeming again.
What Gemini for Students actually offers
The plan is pitched as a "study buddy" with features like personalized study notebooks built from your uploaded course materials, interactive visualizations to explain concepts, real-time feedback on essays or calculations, and career-prep tools like resume improvement and mock interview questions. It's built around turning your own syllabi and notes into custom quizzes, study guides, and summaries rather than just answering questions directly.
