Researchers studied 337 couples to see how accurately partners understood each other's styles of humor.
Participants were consistently able to judge aspects of their partner's humor with some accuracy.
But researchers also discovered biases in those judgments.
People in particularly satisfying relationships showed stronger tendencies to assume their partner's humor was similar to their own.
So knowing someone's sense of humor isn't simply about remembering which jokes make them laugh.
How happy you are together may subtly influence how similar you think your senses of humor are.
