Researchers studied how accurately people understood their romantic partner's humor style.
Partners weren't perfectly accurate in judging each other's humor.
However, accuracy and biases in these perceptions were associated with relationship satisfaction in different ways.
Humor compatibility therefore isn't necessarily just about whether two people laugh at the same jokes.
Understanding how your partner uses humor can also be part of knowing them.
Even something as ordinary as joking can reveal how accurately partners perceive each other.
