Once fruit is cut, its protective outer surface has been broken.

Cut or peeled produce should generally be refrigerated promptly rather than treated like intact fruit sitting on the counter. Clean containers can also protect it from contamination and reduce moisture loss.

This is especially useful to remember when preparing fruit in advance for snacks or meals.

The storage method should change once the knife goes through the fruit.
