A plant adapted to one window or location experiences a new combination of light intensity, direction, temperature, and airflow when moved elsewhere.

Leaves that developed under lower light may not immediately be suited to much stronger direct sunlight, while moving a plant into significantly darker conditions can change new growth.

Some plants therefore benefit from gradual adjustment when conditions change substantially.

For an indoor plant, moving across a room can represent a much larger environmental change than it appears to a person.
