Meta Launches Muse Image: AI Photo Generation Now Lets You Remix Anyone's Instagram Face

Meta just launched Muse Image, its first in-house image generation model, and previewed a companion video model called Muse Video — both built by the newly formed Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL).

What Muse Image Does

Muse Image is designed as a "creative partner that knows your world," using advanced reasoning to interpret complex prompts and blend multiple photos into a single high-quality creation. Key capabilities include following instructions faithfully, precise editing, composing from multiple reference images, and rendering legible text directly inside generated visuals — useful for infographics, how-to guides, or even functional QR codes. Users can tap presets (suggested prompts) for inspiration, "@ mention" photos to pull them into a creation, or sketch edits directly onto an image.

Where It's Rolling Out

Muse Image is live now inside the Meta AI app and is already powering creative features on Instagram (including over 30 new Stories effects) and WhatsApp. Meta says it will expand soon to Facebook, Messenger, more countries, and — within weeks — to advertisers and agencies through Meta Advantage+ creative tools.

Pricing and Access

Everyday use of Muse Image through Meta AI is free, but heavier usage requires one of Meta's ρáíd subscription plans. This mirrors the "freemium" model you've likely seen with other major AI image tools.

The Instagram Face-Reuse Feature

The most talked-about (and controversial) feature lets users tag any public Instagram account and generate new AI images using that person's existing public photos — even without their direct involvement. Meta says users stay "in control," with opt-out settings available for anyone who doesn't want their public Instagram content used this way, though this has already drawn scrutiny over consent and likeness use.

Muse Video: What's Coming Next

Muse Video, the second model previewed alongside Muse Image, is still in active development and is described as Meta's step toward AI-generated video, though no public release date or feature details were shared yet. Meta frames both launches as part of its broader push toward "personal superintelligence" — positioning MSL as the engine behind future consumer-facing generative media across its entire app family.

For someone deep in AI image-model comparisons, Muse Image's standout differentiators versus tools like Midjourney or Gemini's image models are its native Instagram integration, multi-reference photo blending, and in-image legible text/QR rendering — features worth testing hands-on given the fre
e tier inside the Meta AI app.
