Hi, i am seeking for information on how to restrict users that are connected to the devices using another hotspot.

Like for example we created a wireless solution with voucher guest control. Users are given a single use voucher to use in their mobile (android) and he is sharing the connection thru his mobile by enabling the Hotspot/mobile tethering.

We want to prevent this.

I hope the the issue above is clear and waiting for somebody to help.

Thank you.

Hello, I understand your concern about preventing users from sharing their connection through a mobile hotspot while using vouchers on your wireless network. To address this issue, you can consider implementing the following strategies:

1. MAC Address Filtering: One approach is to restrict access based on MAC addresses. By configuring your wireless access points to only allow specific MAC addresses to connect, you can prevent users from sharing the connection through their mobile hotspot. However, please note that MAC addresses can be spoofed, so this method is not foolproof.

2. Bandwidth Limiting: Another option is to limit the bandwidth available to each user, making it less desirable for them to share the connection through a mobile hotspot. By setting bandwidth limits per user, you can discourage excessive usage or sharing of the connection.

3. Network Monitoring: Utilize network monitoring tools to keep track of the devices connected to your network. By actively monitoring the network, you can identify users who are sharing the connection through a mobile hotspot and take appropriate action.

4. Educate Users: Consider educating your users about the implications of sharing the connection through a mobile hotspot. By informing them about the potential impact on network performance and security, you may be able to discourage such behavior.

5. Implement Network Access Control (NAC): NAC solutions can help enforce security policies on devices connecting to your network. You can define rules that prevent unauthorized devices or configurations, such as mobile hotspots, from accessing your network.

6. Regularly Update Policies: It's essential to review and update your network usage policies regularly. By clearly stating the rules and consequences of violating them, you can reinforce the importance of compliance among users.

Implementing a combination of these strategies can help you prevent users from sharing the connection through mobile hotspots and maintain better control over your network. I hope these suggestions provide you with some guidance on addressing your issue. Let me know if you need further assistance or have any other questions.
