An induction motor works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. It consists of a stationary stator and a rotating rotor. The stator contains a set of winding which is connected to an AC power source. The rotor, which is mounted on a shaft, consists of a set of conducting bars or coils.

When the AC power is applied to the stator winding, it produces a rotating magnetic field. This magnetic field induces an electromagnetic field in the rotor, which in turn creates a current in the rotor conductors. This current produces a magnetic field which interacts with the stator magnetic field, causing the rotor to rotate.

The speed of the rotor is always less than the speed of the rotating magnetic field produced by the stator. The difference in speed between the rotor and the stator is called slip. The amount of slip depends on the load on the motor.

Induction motors are widely used in various applications due to their simple design, reliability, and low cost. They are used in pumps, fans, compressors, conveyor systems, and many other industrial applications.
