It’s not a stretch to say that San Juanico Bridge is one of the best-known infrastructures in the country. After all, it stands as the longest bridge in the Philippines at 2.16 kilometers. The famed structure—located in Eastern Visayas—connects the islands of Leyte and Samar by linking the city of Tacloban to the town of Santa Rita. It’s been serving motorists in the area since the early 1970s.

Former President Ferdinand Marcos dedicated the bridge to his wife, then First Lady Imelda Marcos, who was known as the “Rose of Tacloban.”
It cost $21.9 million to build.
San Juanico Bridge is considered one of the biggest and most expensive infrastructure projects in the country. It cost a total of $219 million to construct.
It was opened on former First Lady Imelda Marcos’ birthday.
The bridge’s opening on July 2, 1973, coincides with First Lady Imelda Marcos’ 44th birthday.
It’s part of the Pan-Philippine Highway.

It used to be called Marcos Bridge.

even after the rampage of Typoon Haiyan in Nov.2013.
