Huawei is building a new chip factory to circumvent US ban
Huawei’s operations face great difficulties following the latest US ban, that cut access to chip supply. Now according to Financial Times, the Shenzhen company is now preparing its own chipset plant (instead of relying on TSMC) that will run on behalf of the in-house R&D business and will be backed by the local government. It will initially be able to only manufacture 45nm chipsets that were initially introduced back in 2007. Earlier this year Richard Yu, CEO of the consumer business group at Huawei, revealed the company can no longer make its own chips, meaning it has to start from square one. Doctor in Quezon City tests positive for COVID-19
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 11) — The Quezon City government on Wednesday reported that a doctor has tested positive for COVID-19 — the first reported case of infection of a medical personnel in the country and the fourth case of the viral disease in the city. Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte told CNN Philippines in a text message that he is a 27-year-old doctor who, based on reports, was treating a COVID-19 patient. Belmonte would not disclose the name of the hospital where he worked at. Huawei to launch first Harmony OS beta for mobile phones on December 18
Huawei knows the future path to Google Services might be non-existent even with a new US President, so the company is going full ahead with its own Harmony OS. According to Wang Chenglu, the president of the software department at Huawei Consumer Business Group, the open-source platform will be available to developers around December 18 and the first demo units will run the OS by January or February 2021. China sent “the world’s first 6G test satellite” into the orbit with a launch of Long March 6 carrier rocket on Friday, according to a message from the University of Electronic Science and Technology, cited by local media.
