Gov't asked to provide 2nd booster shot to general public
By Filane Mikee Cervantes June 18, 2022, 5:59 pm MANILA – The government should expand the second Covid-19 booster doses to the general public for complete protection against the disease, according to a lawmaker. Iloilo (1st District) Rep. Janette Garin said Saturday that the Delta and Omicron variants of Covid-19, as well as other subvariants, have changed the definition of "fully immunized”, noting that waning and inadequate protection from the primary vaccination series are the reasons why there are breakthrough infections. "Everything must be backed by science. Trials have established the benefits of receiving two boosters. Those who would like complete protection should be allowed to do so and be given the option," Garin, a...
World can end Covid emergency this year
Updated at 12:04 am THE head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday that the planet can end the Covid-19 emergency this year, although the virus last week killed someone every 12 seconds. "We can end Covid-19 as a global health emergency, and we can do it this year," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told the UN health agency's executive board. To do so, countries need to work harder to ensure equitable access to vaccines and treatment, track the virus and its emerging variants, and keep restrictions in place, he warned. The WHO has for months demanded that countries do more to accelerate the distribution of vaccines in poorer nations, calling on all countries to vaccinate at least 70 percent of their populations by the...
