A post from a U.S. pediatric emergency medicine physician revealing he tested positive for novel coronavirus antibodies has stirred up wide discussions on Twitter in the last two days.

The positive antibody test result suggests he had the novel coronavirus months before he even realized.

Antevy checked his COVID-19 antibody status on April 3, and the results came back positive, indicating that he had a past infection.

People are now questioning whether the virus was widespread before everyone knew about it and wondering how many people have had it already.

Speculations around the exact time the novel coronavirus has circulated in each country are everywhere. Italy, the U.S., Britain, Brazil and many other countries all have reported strange pneumonia cases in December, November, and even in late October.

Italian scientists investigate possible earlier emergence of coronavirus

MILAN (Reuters) - Italian researchers are looking at whether a higher than usual number of cases of severe pneumonia and flu in Lombardy in the last quarter of 2019 may be a signal that the new coronavirus might have spread beyond China earlier than previously thought.

“We want to know if the virus was already here in Italy at the end of 2019, and - if yes - why it remained undetected for a relatively long period so that we could have a clearer picture in case we have to face a second wave of the epidemic,” -Adriano Decarli

It's good to know that some countries had noticed this, might helped in determining its origins. But it's too late. The virus had already spread without being noticed long before it was reported, because the symptoms are the same as pneumonia, and nobody at that time have a test kit or means to determine/differentiate the cause because the virus is still unknown to the world. They always mentioned the word "strange" and yet nobody cared to check it during that period. They simply had no idea. And it's exactly the same as what China experienced! It will just be a lesson to the medical community to be more vigilant next time.
And, a second wave of infection may only happen after a premature return to normalcy. It applies to all countries, especially in China which is the first to "flatten the curve", but still recovering at the moment. Each country should apply strict guidelines before gradually returning back to regular life to avoid it. The "second wave" effects were the lessons we learned from the SARS outbreak (c/o SARS-CoV-1) of 2002-2004 - w/ still no vaccines yet at the moment. Present SARS-CoV-2 (of COVID-19 outbreak affecting 185 countries and territories) is more contagious than SARS-CoV-1 (affecting 29 countries and territories), not to mention the infected and deaths. So timewise, and logically thinking, it will take a longer time for us to recover even if an official vaccine arrives based on present statistics. Isolation and containment outweighs the cure at these times.
