This actually happening, not only in love relationship, but also in everyday life. I got asked in the interview why did I leave the company and I said it's because the politics inside the office is so unfair that my effort is not being appreciated and my opinions were disregarded (not verbatim). In short, I just said what I feel when I left the company and at that time I feel I was a victim of power tripping in the office.

But after my serious self-reflection and self-evaluation, it happened that I actually just did not exert enough effort to be recognized and I somewhat wanted an easy work (e.g. logging out in the office at exactly my time-out, average performance, got tardiness, and some office protocols breached) with an expected reward aka privilege.

So yeah, it's actually a good advice not to fall to these people who blame others because they think they are a victim of something. It will make people more unhappy and selfish. In fact, it's an introduction on how to make a spoiled brat when we tolerate victimhood mentality.
