Using all capital letters in the virtual world, is often regarded as shouting at someone. It does not matter where you are on the internet, or where you are on the server, but shouting is not acceptable.
In reality, shouting at someone is done to get their attention through intimidation. Shouting breaks the standard level of volume and tone, a voice should carry, to force someone into doing something. This is not socially acceptable in a civilized society because it is a use of force not reason.
HOW TO USE CAPS LOCK THE RIGHT WAY:
The use of caps lock now looks like the biggest sin on the internet, however, HOW can we use the caps lock in such a way that it is ethically correct?
Generally, it is agreed that the caps lock key can be used as a method to EMPHASISE certain words to bring across the message. The use of caps lock to STRESS certain words is acceptable. Instead of typing your entire message in caps lock, pick out certain important words you would like to stress on, and caps them. It is very important to note the lesser words your sentence has, the lesser caps lock should you use, as this prevents your message from giving others the impression that you are shouting, or yelling at them.
