Rod Maceda Talks About The Future of Cinema in The New World of Arts and Entertainment

CEBU CITY - Nakapanayam natin ang Indie Auteur na Private Merchant Artist at CEO ng WCN na si Rod Maceda kahit na ba sobrang busy niya sa pag release ng mga sunod sunod na mga pelikula para sa WCN V-Cinema at iba pa na maglalabasan na full-length vertical drama series gaya ng "Puppy Love", "Takod", "Ana Guada", "Hangtod Karon" at "Kaloy" sa 2027 and beyond.

Dahil naging successful ang world premiere ng V-Cinema na pinangunahan ng "Ananya" at "Pink House", nilambing namin siya upang finally makuha ang opinion niya at sagot sa mga netizens na nagtatanong kung ano nga raw ba ang future ng cinema and entertainment industry. Ito ay dahil sa hindi talaga ugali ni Rod Maceda na makialam o magbida bida sa mga ganyan na bagay. Pero dahil nga sa dumadami ang mga young film students at nagtatanong sa ating himpilan upang makuha ang statement ni Rod Maceda, heto na at ipa publish na natin para mabasa ng lahat.

Ani Rod,

"Jo, ayoko talaga nakikialam sa ginagawa ng ibang tao. Sino ba naman ako? Kanya kanyang trip yan. Walang basagan ng trip. Gawin nila ang gusto nilang gawin. Pero kung gusto ninyo talaga marinig ang opinion ko, opinion ko lang ito at hindi ito ang reality para sa lahat. Because we observe different realities naman kasi. Pero ito lang ang sa akin. There is no future para sa cinema if you are or if they are asking me kung maibabalik pa ba yung golden era nina Nora Aunor, Tirso Cruz, Gloria Sevilla, FPJ, Susan Roces, Amalia Fuentes at iba pa.... yung time ng pinilakang tabing. Yun na yun. That was it at nakalagay na yun sa time capsule. It was a great time, but that's it. So if filmmakers of today believe they can bring it back, then let them try. Ang sa akin lang, iba na ang time ngayon, filmmakers call themselves, including myself hahaha, we call ourselves filmmakers when in fact, we are all just digital video moviemakers. Kasi when you say film, it should be celluloid. Pero sabi ng nila digital film nga daw, so okay, so mga digital filmmakers nalang kami haha para pasok pa rin kami sa category na filmmakers. So yun. And also, mahirap pa ang economic situaton natin ngayon kasi yung mga elites na gatekeepers ng mundo, ayaw nila na may uusad, gusto kasi nila sila lang ang in control at gusto nila sinasamba sila sa mga kababawan nila, kaya naglalabas sila ng kung anu-anong chubibo para lang ma distract ang mga tao. Kaya maraming mga young filmmakers ang naghihintay na may mag sponsor ng script nila, and if they wait forever, mababaon sa banga ang scripts nila. They have to do something about it now because nobody's coming for them. Sorry to burst the bubble but that's the reality I choose to observe.

So here goes, hindi na uso ang artista ngayon, like umay na ang maraming tao. Bakit? Kasi lahat naman ng tao na ngayon ay puwede na maging artista with social media. Kaya nagkaroon ng awakening sa karamihan kasi bakit nga ba nila sasambahin ang isang tao na ni launch as an idol ng isang giant tv network or this label they call "legit or mainstream movie outfit", bakit nga ba nila sasambahin kung sila ay puwede naman mag acting at gumawa ng sarili nilang movies gamit lang ang cellphone nila? Maybe for now, nakikita pa ang mga artista sa mainstream, pero all in all, they have already collapsed. I mean, ano ba ang saysay ng mga artista? Most of them entice people to play online ********, they deceive people, they pretend they are God's children but they entice others to take the wrong road by playing sugal, they deceive people with their endorsement products na puro mga processed stuff na nakakasira sa katawan ng tao. And they don't really care about their fans kasi if they do, they'd never endorse those stuff. Kaya ang mga tao, sa kapaguran sa kahirapan plus may social media na, unti-unting naumay sa mga artista. And it's happening already. Wala nang singer sa special, kasi if you launch singers, hindi papayag ang mga yan na sila lang, kaya gagawa din yung iba ng videos nila na kumakanta, so artista na rin sila. Walang nagpapatalo, walang nagpapasapaw, walang nagpapaawat, lahat gusto maging artista, lahat gusto maging vloggers at lahat gusto maging influencers. Diyan nagstart ang fatigue. And do you guys honestly believe na babalik sila datin in 2027 or beyond? If I'm wrong about what I have been saying then it's good for all of them and for their fans kasi at least they get to keep their careers going. Pero the fact is, umay na umay na ang tao sa kanila. Their big budget promo team or PR Machine nila is just the thing that keeps them going on socmed na nagmumukhang gustung gusto pa rin sila ng mga tao. Pero sa totoo lang, sukang suka na ang majority sa kanila. Wala lang choice ang tao kasi ito naman si meta, hindi hinahayaan na mapanood ang mga content na naka upload lang. Meron silang ginawang algorithm na sila ang magdi decide kung ano or sino ang iluluwa nila para ma distribute at mapanood ng marami."

So ano po ang future ng cinema?

"Ito na nga... lahat ng tao ay artista na. Lahat ng tao ay singers na. Lahat vloggers na. Walang papayag na hindi sila maging bida at walang magpapaawat na may lamang sa kanila. Ito na ang future ng showbiz. And the funny part is, pati ang mga politicians ay mga artista na rin kasi umaarte na rin sila, may mga away away din sila at interviews na pang showbiz ang style and even their stuff, nakalagay sa showbiz section ng mga social media sites... so it's a joke but not in a hahaha way. Ang sagwa, right? Mga politicians naglipana ang mga news articles about them sa showbiz section."

Paano po ang AI Films tulad ng ginagawa ninyo?

"It's not showbiz. It's the new world of arts and entertainment. Hindi siya puro kababawan tulad ng pag flex ng yaman o travels o pera na hawak ng isang artista sa Manila showbiz. That's the difference. I'm an auteur. I can say this is the "Auteur's Era" kasi parami ng parami ang mga tao ang nahuhumaling sa AI-movies at AI-dramas. And these are mostly created by auteurs like me. Imagination namin ang napapanood ng tao sa screen at mga HUBATAHM (Human Base of The AI Hybrid Models) ang nagsisilbing models ngayon sa panahon na ito. And if fans demand for a full-length movie, HUBATAHM artists serve as voice actors sa kanilang mga characters na nasa screen. Yang mga fashion models, pawala na rin yan kasi everybody can model using their phone, sa IG nila, Tiktok everywhere. Nobody can gatekeep anymore. Everybody can be an artista. Everybody can be a singer now. Everybody can dance... kaya nga may Tiktok... everybody can vlog and flex whatever they want to flex. But... not everybody can be an auteur. You just can't. It would take so much passion, pure-hearted intention for a a person to become an auteur. If you disagree, try mo maging auteur. Hehe. Most of the time, hindi kami pa showbiz kaming mga auteurs. And I think auteurs na ang uso ngayon. Kasi hindi kami pakalat kalat kung saan saan and believe it or not, people are so interested in finding out kung anu-ano ang nasa imaginations namin. Maniwala kayo, in 2027 and beyond, mag explode lalo ang AI era. I can definte it as "Auteurs' Imaginaiton" era or "Assistant Intelligence" era. You need to bring something to the table na yung may mission ka para sa kabutihan ng sangkatauhan. Kasi kung para magbida bida ka lang at magpasikat, lahat hindi magpapatalo eh, lahat magbibida rin using their phones or posting comments. Kaya yun. So yeah, this is the time of auteurs. It's our time. It's my time. It's showtime. Hahaha. I'm taking it. It's mine. All mine. Yeah. Hehe."

Paano po ang mga gustong umarte sa pelikula?

"Ano ba ang point? Gustong umarte para hangaan ng marami at maging parang idol at sikat at i-gatekeep ang position niya, para magka endorsement then magkunwari na down to earth pero at the back of their heads gusto nila VIP sila or whatnot, or just to act kasi passion nila ang acting? Alin diyan sa dalawa ang intention talaga?"

To act po for passion.

"Then go ahead and shoot your movie using your phone. Or mag stage play kayo sa maliit lang na stage, then few scenes lang then magkape kape kayo after the performace para may human bonding, yung mga ganun and in order to feed the hungry soul of the artists the acting performance they need to show the public.
I did theater acting, writing and directing when I was in high school. Magandang avenue ang theater acting. Sa mga gusto naman na panatilihin ang traditional shooting, go ahead. Ako rin naman, I still love and would still love to shoot na yung may physical set. I actually mix AI-Assisted scenes and real humans shot na mga scenes. So walang problema sa part ko."

If hindi na po nag a-acting ang mga HUBATAHM ninyo, ano po ang silbi ng filmmaking at acting nila?

"Acting is not the goal of the HUBATAHM Artists. They just want to be seen out there in AI movies for fun and for storytelling and they want to see themselves in high visuals na movies na sobrang ganda ng cinematography at resolution. Yun lang yun. Plus, they get to do other stuff like do their dayjobs. másáráp sa feeling nila na okay I'm working and getting ρáíd with my dayjob but I also have movies coming out, thanks to my auteur... hahaha. Yung ganun. I'm sahing it this way kasi yun ang sinasabi ng mga HUBATAHM Artists ko sa akin. And if the fans would like them to appear sa mga comic conventions ko, magandang raket yan para sa kanila kasi siyempre, fans have to provide for their appearance fee. And so I always remind my HUBATAHM Artists to take good care of themselves, lalo na ang katawan nila para kapag may comic conventions or meet and greet sa fans, they still look exactly like their AI Hybrid Models or if not exactly the same, at least close enough. And kapag nakita sila ng mga fans, dun may kilig at gulat factor kasi para bang wow siya nga yan or something like that. Yun. It's a very healthy environment and if you look at it honestly, it's a win win situation. But of course, if they would love to shoot sa physical set with other productions, they are absolutely free to do so. Kaya nga everybody happy and win win."

Ano po mangyayari sa Philippine Cinema?

"The old world of it is absolutely dead. But after every death comes a new born. Sa ngayon, kung anuman yun, hindi ko muna sasabihin dito kasi ang dami ko na sinabi hahaha. Hayaan ko nalang na mag unfold yan at maunawaan ng nakararami as time goes by."

Dagdag naman ni Hanna Remorosa,
"Direk is like a father to me, sa amin ni Digoy, my husband and Yen our daughter, parang apo na siya ni Direk Rod, kaya we look after one another now, kami mga HUBATAHM Artists sa WCN. Kaya I told Direk, sabi ko, gawin mo nalang P20, kasi yung iba nga nasa P50. Ibaba natin konti ang sa'tin pero huwag naman P8 kasi sobrang baba na 'yan. Kinausap ko talaga si Direk about that. And thankfully, nakinig naman siya."

Si Hanna Remorosa na rin ay nai-assign ng WCN na bilang headwriter ng vertical drama anthology series na "Hangtod Karon" na magbabalik sa WCN ngayong February 2027 VALENTINES DAY.

"I'm very honored na sa akin binigay ni Direk ang position kasi alam ko sobrang dami na niyang task. Excited ako and I'm doing my research now and my other stories na rin sa laptop ko aside from managing the family business namin ng husband ko, yung barbershop namin and may small food business din ako. Kaya thankful kay Lord. Basta matiyaga ka lang at hindi tatamad tamad, mabubuhay ka."

Sabi sa amin ni Sir Rod Maceda na ang hinahangaan niya daw sa'yo ay ang pagiging magaling mo humawak ng pera at mag-ipon? Is it true?

"Sinabi yan ni Direk? Ito talaga si Direk Rod, binuking pa ako. Hindi naman sa sobrang galing. Ever since bata pa ako, ganyan talaga ako, I always put small coins sa mga jars ko, para kapag nag check ako, para bang wow may P1000 pala dito na jar, tapos sa kabila naman like ah meron dito madudukot. Ganun kasi ako eh. It's not like nag-aral ako about it sa finance. It runs in my blood. Ganun talaga ako kaya thankfully, kahit papaano, nakapagpundar kami ng husband ko. And gusto ko talaga lumago ang WCN with my family here, si Direk Rod, si Aya, si Jomari R. and all the HUBATAHM Artists ng WCN. Para paldo lahat."

WCN Head-Writer Hanna Remorosa Strongly Suggested and Won The Votes of the HUBATAHM Artists: WCN Reverts All of its Content Back to Cebuano Bisaya

CEBU CITY - Nagkaroon ng close meeting ang mga head writers at HUBATAHM Artists ng WCN at majority wins as always.

Sobrang nag-insist ang "Hangtod Karon" head-writer na si Hanna Remorosa na ibalik sa Cebuano Bisaya ang audio language ng lahat ng content ng WCN dahil nga sa mas lalong sumisikat na ngayon ang Cebuano Bisaya at maraming mga artista sa Manila ngayon ang nag-aaral magsalita ng Cebuano. Sa kanilang meeting, talagang inilatag ni Hanna ang buong pwersa ng kanyang panig at kung bakit kailangan ito.

Ani Hanna,

"Yun nga nag talk kami at si Direk Rod naman, I understand him kung bakit noong mga nakalipas na mga buwan, ginawa niyang Tagalog na ang content, he's half-Tagalog din naman kasi, hindi siya pure Bisaya pero it doesn't matter as long as he is Cebuano sa puso niya. Yun ang importante dun. Okay lang sa news articles namin sa WCN, yung mga showbiz balita mga ganun, okay lang na Tagalog or English, para mabilis ma pick up ng mga tao yung balita or updates about our latest stuff. Pero sabi ko talaga, na Direk, mas maganda kung i-revert natin pabalik to Cebuano Bisaya... kasi nga, like sa South Korea, sumikat ang KPOP not because nag English sila, they remain speaking Korean sa mga movies at KDramas, but with English subtitles of course. Nag adjust ang tao sa kanila. So I know and I believe na mas lalong sumisikat ngayon ang Cebuano Bisaya at sakop nito ang VisMin. So sabi ko kay Direk, hayaan natin na ang Luzon ang mag adjust total mas malaki ang sakop ng VisMin. At sabi ko talaga kay Direk na "LAYSHO" ang mga pelikula at drama series natin kaya for sure, mag adjust yan sila, and siyempre, may English and Spanish subtitles naman provided katulad noong sa Puppy Love drama series namin. Kaya yun. Hihi."

Parang ang lakas ng kapit ni Hanna sa WCN?

"Hoy no naman! Ikaw Jona ha! No, hindi ganun. Nag vote ang HUBATAHM Artists and majority wins. Noong una, agree naman sila sa sabi ni Direk na gawing English nalang daw lahat para deretso na worldwide ang target viewers, pero sabi ko, kaya nagustuhan ng mga tao ang WCN decades ago because of its authenticity... yung pagiging Bisaya nito na kaya na inlove ang maraming viewers. Hindi sa palakasan yan ha. I insisted talaga sa table na ibalik talaga and Aya Sanada also seconded the motion. Basta may English subtitle lang, gora, laban Japan hahaha."

So, from here, notice to the public, ang lahat ng mga vertical movies, vertical drama series and all vertical content ng WCN ay reverted back na to Cebuano Bisaya. Except for the Halloween 2026 Four Horror Movie Special Treats ng V-Cinema dahil na-integrate na ito ni Direk Rod Maceda. Nagawa na ang mga eksena at Tagalog ang gamit na language. Kaya after ng Halloween Specials, expect all V-Movies and V-Dramas ng WCN audio language to be in Cebuano Bisaya with English, Spanish and Russian subtitles.

CEBU CITY - Nagpapasalamat ang Bisaya na fitness instructor na si Almanzo del Toro dahil napasama siya sa cast ng horror movie na part ng V-Cinema Halloween Four Back To Back Special Treat na nagsisimula na ngayon sa WCN FB at YouTube.

Mahiyain si Almanzo del Toro pero dahil na convince siya ni Direk Rod Maceda na kailangan naipapakita niya sa buong mundo ang ganda ng katawan niya sa mga pelikula, nabibigyan ng hustisya ang art.
