Catbalogan City in Samar recently launched a curated food-tourism experience called Secret Kitchens of Samar: Flavors of Catbalogan. Instead of visiting one restaurant, participants can explore several local food experiences as part of one organized trip.
The approach turns regional cuisine into a tourism activity while giving local food businesses more exposure.
It also allows visitors to discover dishes that may not appear on typical tourist menus.
Food therefore becomes a way of exploring a city's identity rather than simply something eaten during a trip. Similar food-tourism approaches could help lesser-known Philippine destinations attract visitors through their local cuisine.
