Building a house was not necessarily treated as a purely practical construction project in traditional Bontoc society.
The Philippine Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory separately records Bontoc House-Building Rituals. This means the construction process itself could be accompanied by culturally prescribed practices.
It reflects a broader traditional worldview in which important changes to a family's physical environment could require ceremonial recognition.
House construction therefore belonged to the same cultural universe as agricultural and life-cycle rituals.
The practice shows that even the act of creating a home could carry social and spiritual meaning.
