The RAR format is proprietary, the only software that can merge these files is WinRAR. Free compression utilities such as 7-ZIP can extract RAR files, but not create them.
1. Navigate to the RARLAB Web page (link in Resources) and click the download link for the latest version of the WinRAR software. This is a commercial program but it comes with a 40-day trial period that should be sufficient if you only want to perform this process once.
2. Install the program once the download is complete and then launch WinRAR.
3. Use the WinRAR file browser to navigate to the folder where the RAR files that you want to merge are located.
4. Hold down the "Ctrl" key and click each of the RAR files that you want to merge.
5. Click the "Extract To" button and then select a destination path. Click the "OK" button to begin the extraction.
6. Use the WinRAR file browser to open the folder where you have extracted the RAR files. The contents of all the RAR files should be together in this folder, ready for you to merge into a single RAR file.
7. Right-click anywhere in the WinRAR file browser window and then click "Select All" from the pop-up menu. This highlights the contents of the entire folder without the need to select files individually.
8. Click the "Add" button and then enter a name for the new merged archive. Ensure that the radio button next to "RAR" is selected in the archive format section and click "OK."
9. Double-click the new merged RAR file in the WinRAR file browser to view the contents and ensure that all the files that you have selected have been successfully added.
Tip

Tip
- You do not have to extract the contents of the RAR files before merging them into a single file. If you add all the existing RAR files to a new archive, you will still end up with a single archive. This is useful if you want to have separate RAR files again after extracting the merged archive. Bear in mind that because the files are already compressed, there will be no further reductions in the total file size.
